October Goals
Friends, I cannot believe it’s October. Where has 2015 gone? Do you ever feel like you had these grand plans and ideas back in January and February and then by this time of the year you realize you haven’t gotten nearly as much done as you wanted to? Or sometimes the year has just gone in a completely different direction than you expected? Let me tell you, I am feeling both of those things right now. There are things that have been on my to-do list all year (submitting my weddings to blogs), and there are things that weren’t on my lists that I did that I’m so thankful for!
Done:
Posing Workshop by Ben Sasso– This online workshop was recommended to me by a friend, and I’m SO glad she sent it my way. Ben Sasso is a wedding, portrait and fashion photographer based near LA. One thing I love about his images are that the poses seem so natural, and in his workshop he achieves that look with his models and with clients who have never modeled a day in their lives. It was awesome!Educational Blog Posts from Katelyn James– Katelyn is a wedding photographer based in Richmond, VA. She is one of my all-time favorite photographers, and part of her business is providing affordable educational materials for other photographers. How great is that?? I’ve purchased several of her mini-guides, but she also has almost 100 educational blog posts that are a wealth of information and are absolutely free. I spent some time last week combing through every one of them, and I feel so inspired. To say I’m excited about putting all this into practice is a complete understatement.Order new lenses– I’m pretty pumped about this one. I just recently invested in the Canon 50mm f/1.2 and the 100mm Macro f/2.8. They just came in THIS WEEK and I can’t wait to shoot some mini-sessions with them this weekend (though that seems unlikely now with the hurricane).File quarter 3 sales tax– Yep! You read that right. The third quarter ended YESTERDAY and I filed the sales tax return this morning. I call that a win. Who says you have to be intimidated by paperwork!
To-do:
- Design Bridal Guide – I’ve been slowly working on this, but it’s been a much larger undertaking than I expected and my new project excitement is slowly wearing off. I’m planning to keep working on it this month, but I realize that I probably won’t get it done with all the shooting and editing I’ll have to be doing.
- Blog Submissions – I’ve decided that I’m going to submit every wedding I shoot to some blog somewhere, so that it’s part of my normal workflow. If I make it part of “finishing” every wedding than I will do it more often and I’ll probably get published more often.
- Shoot Mini Sessions – This is turning out to be more of a challenge that I thought with all the rain and storms we’ve been having. My first sessions are in two days, and with the hurricane coming our way it looks like we’re going to have to reschedule. I’m disappointed, but we’ll work it out!
- October Weddings – I’m so excited for some more fall weddings and a chance to put into practice all the things I’ve learned over the past few weeks. And use my new lenses! Friends, it’s going to be a great fall.
- Stay on top of editing – With 2 weddings, 6 family sessions and 2 senior shoots, I HAVE to stay on top of editing this month. That means working hard to get my September wedding finished before things get even more crazy.
Enjoy the fall, friends! I don’t know about you, but we always have a lot of fun things planned in October. This month will hold the State Fair, a corn maze, Beauty and the Beast at Durham Performing Arts Center, and a Ben Rector concert, and that’s just what we already have planned! I’m going to embrace the busy and sleep in November =)
