Oh do I love a baby in suspenders and a bow tie! Baby Derek just turned 1 so we did a photo session at Veteran’s Park complete with an awesome colorful cake! Cake smash sessions are my favorite, and bright-colored one like this is so much fun to photograph. He was a little hesitant at first, but then he got into it. When else are you SUPPOSED to put your hands and face full in your cake? Derek was a champ sitting in the grass, walking around exploring, and playing with his dinosaurs. That’s how a good 1-year session should go! Lots of opportunity for kids to play and be themselves. That’s the best way to be able to capture their personalities and get genuine smiles. No one-year-old is going to do well with trying to force them to sit still and smile. Also, Derek has the model face DOWN. I’m glad we got some smiles and laughs too, but how CUTE is that stare?!? Happy birthday, buddy!
