Jessie and Garret met online, but they lived an ocean apart. Jessie said later that she didn’t see much point in a doctor from North Carolina and a missionary to Croatia getting to know each other, but she’s so thankful Garret didn’t see it that way! He moved back to the States last summer and took a job working stateside for the same organization he worked for in Croatia.

Throughout the day I was just so touched by the emotion of it all. It was clear that Jessie and Garret have been waiting for each other for a while and that they (and their families and friends) were just so thrilled to be getting married. It was so sweet to be a part of it!! Congratulations, Jessie and Garret!

The day before their wedding was a sunny 60 degrees, but looking at the forecast we all knew the wedding day wound’t be like that. The day of the wedding was cold and drizzly, but thankfully, the church where they got married has more windows than any church I’ve ever seen! And lots of covered porches. Sometimes natural light portraits can be hard to come by when it just rains all day, but it wasn’t hard to make it work! And by the time we were ready to do couple portraits we had just enough of a break in the rain to do some outside. I’m so glad I brought my umbrella!!

Random side note: these two are a perfect example of why I always recommend engagement sessions, especially if people are nervous about being in front of the camera! My job isn’t just to pick pretty light and take pretty pictures, it’s to give people a great experience, and part of that is making sure they feel comfortable and have a great time. Jessie and Garret told me after their engagement session that they actually had fun! And they were so much less nervous on their wedding day because they’d already worked with me, knew what to expect, and knew they could take great photos.
