Durham Winter Wedding
Both Sarah and Andrew are first responders: Sarah as an EMT and Andrew as a firefighter. They met at work, and right away Andrew asked Sarah out to dinner. That first date was in February of 2015. They’ve been together ever since! In August 2017, Andrew proposed on a sunset picnic at the beach. They chose early December for their wedding, probably thinking it wouldn’t be too cold yet, and it would be nice to celebrate their marriage during the Christmas season. Little did they know that their wedding day could be COLD. But thankfully it was cold enough to snow, and that made it wonderful. It’s the first time I’ve ever photographed anything other than my dog in the snow, and I loved every minute of it. I had to reign it in since Sarah didn’t have the warm layers on that I did, but I’m so glad we got those portraits!! They are by far my fave.
Let me tell you, the day before this wedding I was nervous. I didn’t know if it’d get cold enough to snow, or if it would just sleet all day. I didn’t know what the house where they were getting ready in looked like, or if there would be many indoor spaces for portraits. But it did snow. And the house was PERFECT for indoor portraits. It’s not *quite* finished being built yet. That meant that the door frames were’s painted and there were no door knobs, but there was also no furniture! The living area had two full walls of windows, and tall ceiling, a gorgeous mantel and fireplace, and NOTHING in the way. #perfect
And so was the ceremony. I love ceremonies officiated by a family member, and having Sarah’s dad oversee the exchanging of vows and rings was so, so special. And thankfully they had a very well-heated tent, so the ceremony and reception were nice a cozy despite the weather outside. Congratulations, Sarah and Andrew!! I hope you’re having a blast in the Caribbean!
In case you loved any of the details from Sarah and Andrew’s day, here’s a list of the other awesome vendors involved! If you can believe it, the sister of the bride put all the bouquets together (didn’t she do an amazing job??), so no vendor is listed.
