Summer Vacation in Michigan
I love this place. It’s so peaceful and quiet. There’s something so comforting in the simple things; walks in the woods, drives in the truck, paddles on the river, and bouquets of wildflowers. I love vacations where you don’t have to do anything at any specific time…a week of just doing what you feel like. The only downside was that Stephen couldn’t come this time…and Sadie’s unfortunate run-in with a porcupine. Her collar just came off while I was walking her on night! I was so scared we wouldn’t be able to get her back because she didn’t have her tags, but a couple hours later we heard her near the cabin. We found her eventually, but not before she had thoroughly investigated the little devil. After a middle-of-the-night trip to the vet (these things never happen during the day, do they?), we thankfully had an uneventful rest of the week.
In the middle of the trip we went up to Mackinaw City for the day. We saw the old lighthouse, Fort Michilimackiac, and got some famous Mackinac fudge. A great week was had by all! And I got to meet my brother’s girlfriend, but I’ll talk more about that later this week. 😉
