Black Mountain
It’s now an annual tradition to spend Labor Day weekend at our church’s cabin in Black Mountain with a bunch of our friends, and I look forward to every year!! Now it’s not restful exactly (read at all), because, well, what weekend with 10 other people in one house would be? Especially when most of those people are college friends you used to stay up with until midnight or 1am regularly. We play lots of board games, eat lots of junk food, and explore some really beautiful places, but sleep? Nope. Oh well, that’s what the week after Labor Day weekend is for, right?
On Saturday we walked around the little town of Black Mountain in the afternoon. We got ice cream at Kilwin’s and played games in the square. I was too busy throwing the frisbee and the football to take pictures of that part. On Sunday we drove about an hour south on the parkway to hike at some of our favorite spots: Black Balsam Knob and Devil’s Courthouse. Unfortunately Devil’s Courthouse was shrouded in fog the whole time we were up there, but that’s a different kind of beauty.
