Family photos can sometimes be the most stressful part of a wedding, but they don’t have to be! Here are some helpful tips for getting through them quickly.
1. Make a list – This is probably the most important step. Brides, if your photographer doesn’t ask you for a list, give them one anyway. Not only does it allow you to organize the photos in the most efficient way, it gives you a much better idea of how much time you’ll need to get through all the portraits.
2. Think about locations ahead of time – The altar can be a great place for family formals, but if there’s no window light in the church sanctuary or it’s closer to noon than sunset at an outdoor altar, it’s a good idea to brainstorm other locations. A patch of shade outside with a pretty, natural background is always a good option!
3. Let everyone involved know where to be and when – This is especially important if you’re planning to do some family portraits before the ceremony and some after.
4. Allow plenty of time – You should plan for 3-4 minutes per photo on your list, especially if you have several larger groupings. There will probably be a little extra time if you do that, but better to have a few minutes extra than be stressed about fitting everything in.
